I have around 2 weeks to explore Japan. What are the must-visit places to go? From all that I read, Kyoto, Nagasaki and Kumano Kodo are some places which you should visit (apart from Tokyo of course). What else and how should I plan my visit?

Also are there any festivals happening around February/March? I've heard Japan is breathtaking during any of its festivals.

There are too many places to see in Japan - honestly it is difficult to fit everything in 2-3 weeks. The best time to visit is March-April during the cherry-blossom season OR during fall where the colors are simply beautiful. During spring, accommodation might be a little pricey, but it is well worth it.

If you are visiting for the first time, 2 weeks will give you enough time to cover the major cities - Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima. You can also take day tours to Mt Fuji, Nara and Miyajima. Here's the must visits in a 2-week trip to Japan

5 days Tokyo (including a day trip to Mt Fuji)
    4 days Kyoto
3 days Hiroshima (including a day trip to Miyajima)
3 days Osaka (including day trip to Nara)

    Hope that helps :)
