Is it possible for foreigners in Japan to get a credit card there? What are the requirements and what should I know about?

This would not be very easy. You have to have stayed in Japan for a long-ish time and have to build up your credit history. I believe this is similar case in most countries for expats. It does help a lot to have a JP credit card - you can save money, get points and discounts and build a good credit score for a longer term benefit (like buying a house).

There are some foreigner-friendly credit cards you can try - like J-Trust, Rakuten and EPOS.

Most of these companies need your passport, some photo id (like a driver's license), a valid residence card, health insurance card, and the ATM/debit card you wish to withdraw from. These might change based on the service you select though. Hope this helps!
